Terry Elvina Helmer, 68, of Moorcroft, WY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillett, WY/

Terry Elvina Helmer came into this world on September 23rd, 1955, to parents Vern and Elsie Helmer. As the youngest of four children in the Helmer household, Terry became quick friends with every animal she met.  It was not much of a surprise when Terry would bottle-feed raccoons and ride the family cow.

Terry started her family when she married in 1973 to a boy down the road, and she enjoyed raising three children that grew to be full-sized. She was active with local booster clubs, involved with Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and Job's Daughters, and these organizations saw Terry traveling around the State of Wyoming and meeting many others.

In the 1990s, Terry started to re-invent herself and attend college, earning an Associate of Arts in Sociology from Northwest College in Powell, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Chadron State College.

Terry was quick to boast about having six grandsons, who she was quick to spoil. She enjoyed time with her family, and she was quick to help others in need without reservation.

Terry is preceded in death by her parents, Vern, and Elsie Helmer.

Terry is survived by her aunt, Judy Muhm of Texas, and her uncle Charles Skippy Muhm of South Dakota.  Her brothers Daniel (Martha) Helmer of Washington, Rodney (Luann) of Moorcroft, and sister Cathrine (Jim) Rogers of Cheyenne. Her son Todd (Tara) Newlin of Gillette, daughters, Tammy Bond and Annie Custard, both of Powell.  Her grandsons, Dakota Bond, Dalten Bond, Duncan Bond, Zackary Custard, Matthew Newlin, and Mason Newlin, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be at 10 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft, WY.  Inurnment will follow in the Moorcroft City Cemetery.

The family asks that in place of flowers or cards, donations be made to your local animal shelter.
