IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Reta Mary
Carr
June 8, 1937 – January 26, 2025
Reta Mary Carr, aged 87, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 26, 2025. She was born on June 8, 1937, to Elmer and Juliett Quick in Hot Springs, SD.
Reta graduated from Custer high school in 1955. She moved to Spearfish, SD to attend Black Hills teachers' college and accepted a job as a nanny for Florence and Senator Fred Brady and their five sons. It is at college where she met Frank Carr, whom she married March 22, 1959. Together they were blessed with five children: Valerie Emme of Moorcroft, WY, Guy (Vivian) of Pine Haven, WY Kelly (Paul) Horvath of Spearfish, SD, Tracy (Lynn) Trollope of Sturgis, SD and Wick of Spearfish, SD.
Reta and Frank moved to Clearfield where she taught country school at Beaver Creek and Dorian Meadows until they moved to Spearfish, SD and raised their 5 children. While living in Spearfish, Reta and Frank purchased the Belle Inn Cafe in Belle Fourche. Reta found that she was quite adept at managing the Cafe. In 1988, Reta and Frank moved to Lewistown, MT. While Reta had many diverse interests, her true love was digging in the dirt. In October of 2006, the the Lewistown News-Argus ran a story on The Great Pumpkin Patch where her and Frank raised 16 giant pumpkins that weighed 150lbs or more. She was quoted as saying, these brutes are so big that Frank will have to use a tractor with a front-end loader to move them from the garden to a pick-up truck, she produced award winning floral gardens and beautiful vegetable gardens and as a result, we always had a cellar full of canned goods. Reta remained in Lewistown after Frank passed October 24, 2011. In 2017 Reta moved to Moorcroft, WY to be closer to her children and spend her remaining years.
Reta enjoyed crafting, calligraphy, bowling and tennis. She was an active member of the Garden Club, Extension Club, Mothers Club and Diet Club. She really enjoyed Diet Club every Monday as there was always lunch afterwards at Country Kitchen. Reta was always there with a helping hand at our Methodist Church as well as providing care for several family members and a few elderly friends.
Reta was a ferocious guardian, a kind and loving mother and grandmother, a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend!
Reta is survived by her 5 children, 8 grandchildren,19 great grandchildren, 12 great great-grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, 5 sisters and 3 brothers, 2 grandsons, and one granddaughter.
