Obituary

Early morning was Clint's favorite time of day. Long before his family woke, he would slip quietly to the living room to read the Bible and pray the Rosary while his coffee brewed in the kitchen. Though he lived in the West, he lived on East Coast time; he went to bed with the birds, so he could be up and ready when the markets opened in New York. He was out the door and driving to work long before the sun rose because the most productive time at the office was the period before the building began to hum with the activities of the day; he disliked interruptions that took him away from his research and analyses. Clint was passionate about his work, and he enjoyed discussing investing and the economy with colleagues and clients, but he had no patience for overlong meetings, business lunches, and golf outings.

Despite his desire for uninterrupted work time, his favorite place to work was in his home office, surrounded by the people he loved most. Sure, there were occasional child outbursts by his door during Teams calls, but there were also hugs and kisses from children as they left for the school bus in the mornings, smiling faces giving rapid-fire reports of school-day adventures and sports practice in the afternoons, and home-cooked meals.

Clint cherished his family. When the children were very young and he had to travel for work, he happily packed the books, toys and drawings they proffered to keep him company while he was away from home. He sent back photos of their dinosaurs working with him at his desk and read them bedtime stories over FaceTime.

A devout man, Clint read the Bible and prayed the Rosary daily. He served his parish, at the early Sunday morning mass, of course, as a lector and an extraordinary minister. He and the children often served together as ushers and were always ready to step in when extra ushers were needed. He was a member and officer in the Knights of Columbus in Sheridan, WY and Battle Ground, WA. He was ready to assist with economic data for his wife when she was writing grant applications for the St. Vincent De Paul conference in Battle Ground, and he delivered food and served on the District SVDP council in Billings, MT.

Clint was born in Billings, MT on October 27, 1966, an early birthday present, and naturally an early morning one as well, for his mother, Mary Ann (Seay) McGarvin, and father, Lawrence DeWayne McGarvin. As a child he moved often, living in multiple states and countries until his father's retirement from the Air Force, when the family returned to its Wyoming roots, where Clint graduated from Basin High School in Basin, WY. He went on to earn a BS in Math and Physics from the University of Arizona, an MBA and an MS in Finance from the University of Denver, and a CFA Charter. He worked as an equities analyst and portfolio manager for First Interstate Bank, Frontier Asset Management, and Allen Trust Company. He also taught college and high school math courses.

Clint married Lynn Ann Sell, daughter of William Ross and Dorothy Annabelle (Dillavou) Sell, in Cody, WY. They were blessed with two beloved children, Arianna and Christopher, and enjoyed 36 years of marriage before Our Lord called him home.

Clint was an avid chess player and a veritable nerd, who studied algebraic topology—to relax. He rooted for the Dodgers and Mariners and enjoyed tennis, cycling and running. His family teased him for perpetually being in training for the Teton and Yellowstone Half-Marathons, which he never actually ran because every year for over a decade he had to postpone his entrance due to either a scheduling conflict or an injury that kept him from running. This spring he wanted to run them with his daughter, but sometimes Our Lord has other plans. On March 17, 2025, in Battle Ground, WA, after a brief illness, Clint passed from this temporary earthly life to the fullness of Our Lord's eternal salvation.

Clint is survived by his wife Lynn and their children Arianna and Christopher, of Sundance, WY; his father DeWayne McGarvin, of Rapid City, SD; his mother Mary Montgomery, of Sturgis, SD; his sister Carla (Shawn) Harrison and nephew Hunter of Sturgis, SD; his niece Chelsea (Ethan) Harris, of Rapid City, SD; his brothers-in-law Robert Sell, of Greeley, CO; and Russell (Gayle) Sell, of Cody, WY; and nieces Jessica and Nicole. He was preceded in death by his sister Cynthia McGarvin, his stepmother Eileen McGarvin, his stepbrother Daniel Charest, his brother-in-law Ross Sell, and his parents-in-law Bill and Ann Sell.
