Longtime resident of Deadwood, Ysidro "Chico" Arsaga Fierro, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2018, at Ft. Meade Community Care Center in Fort Meade, S.D. Ysidro was currently being cared for by family members as he was aging. He was 101 and would have celebrated his 102nd birthday on December 7, 2018. He was born December 7, 1916, in Chihuahua, Mexico to Beatrice Arsaga and Antonio Fierro.
At a young age, Ysidro was brought over from Mexico by his mother Beatrice Antuna and his step-father. He lived in Texas, Colorado, and Deadwood. He married Jennie Grado in Deadwood on September 4, 1935; she passed away in 1974. He worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Lead, Bald Mounting Mining Company in Trojan before going to work for the city of Deadwood. He retired from the city of Deadwood after 40 years. Ysidro and Jennie purchased a home in Deadwood, in 1946, after serving his time in World War II.
Ysidro was an outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt with his sons. He also attended many of his sons' sports activities. He enjoyed playing guitar, accordion, harmonica, and singing. He played the guitar at weddings and dances and also played with Jennie's brother George Rosalles for square dancing at the Latchstring Inn in Spearfish Canyon close to Spearfish. He also knew Potato Creek Johnny of Deadwood (historic character).
He is survived by his children, Lawrence (Louise) Fierro, Peter Fierro, John (special friend Jo) Fierro, Virginia (special friend Don) Fierro, James Fierro, Richard (Joannie) Fierro, Teresa (Tim) Martinez, Anita Bennett, Michael (Mary) Fierro; 50 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren and 55 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Jennie Fierro (mother of all 13 children) and Josephine Roubideaux Fierro; daughter, Caroline; son, Martin; son, David and daughter, Margaret.
Family services are pending, burial will be at the Oakridge Cemetery in Deadwood, performed by Michael Fierro.
