Wilma Dobbins, 88, of Moorcroft, WY, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 after a long battle with macular degeneration, diabetes and cancer.
Wilma was a twin, born at home in Moorcroft, Wyoming on September 8, 1921 to Cecil Clyde and Winnie Belle (Torbert) Hughes. Wilma grew up in Moorcroft and graduated with the class of 1939.
Following her graduation she worked for a short time as a telephone operator in the local telephone office and then moved to Seattle where she had many relatives and found work at Boeing Aviation during World War II. Wilma was a riveter, a genuine "Rosie the Riveter." She attended cosmetology school, and worked as a hairdresser for many years. She owned her own beauty shop, worked for others and also taught the art of hairdressing in Washington State. Later in life she obtained an associate degree in library science and worked at the Moorcroft High School as an assistant librarian.
Wilma met Navy man Forrest J. Rollins while in Seattle and they married there in 1941. When Forrest (Dude) was transferred to New York City, Wilma accompanied him and they lived there until returning home to Moorcroft. Two children were born to this union, daughter Marsha Huckins, and son Roland Rollins. The eighteen year marriage ended and Wilma married David Nicholas and later Alvin Dobbins.
Wilma loved crossword puzzles, a good game of cribbage and watching television. She loved her family and was always interested in hearing about their activities and keeping up with their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Winnie Hughes, her brothers Cecil and Jack, her husband Al Dobbins, and her former husbands Forrest and David.
She is survived by her daughter Marsha (Alvin) Huckins of Upton, her son Roland (Debbra) Rollins of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren Warren (Deb) Huckins, Kristina (Brent) Thompson, Jessica Rollins, and Travis Rollins. Her great grandchildren Cassandra (Justin) Hurlburt, Tyrel Huckins, Caleb, Corbin and Dylan Thompson, her great-great grandsons Chord Toth and Tyson Huckins and her twin brother Willis (Iris) Hughes. Also surviving are nephews Doug, Mike, Mark and Hoby Hughes and nieces Carla Brown, Robin Hughes and Leslie Flocchini and their families.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given in her memory to the Presbyterian Church of Moorcroft or to the Crook County Hospice in Sundance. Funeral arrangements are pending and the date of the service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel Service of Sundance.
