William Fredrick Rollin 90, of Spearfish, passed away on Memorial Day—Monday, May 26, 2014 at Fort Meade VA Hospice.
William was born on April 7, 1924 in Sturgis, SD. William graduated from Tawas High School in Michigan. During WWII, he served at Ellsworth Air Force Base. He worked as the Standard Oil bulk dealer for over 40 years in Spearfish, SD until he retired in 1999. William was an active volunteer serving in the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department, High Plains Heritage Center, and numerous places within the Spearfish United Methodist Church. William also served in the Grand Masonic Lodge of South Dakota #0018 and was a member of the American Legion. William was known for his big heart, community service, and fun sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Emmy Rollin of Spearfish, his daughter, Thais Rollin (Duane) Johnson of Spearfish, his step-children, Troy Pratt of Spearfish and Wanda Pratt (John Gennari) of Seattle, his grandchildren, Ashley Forney (Russell Reader) of Spearfish, Sara Forney of Spearfish, and Jasmine Pratt of Seattle, two great-grandchildren, Trista and Randall Reader of Spearfish, and his sister, Nancy Foss of Oscoda, Michigan. William was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rollin, and his brothers, Russell, Kenneth, and Jack Rollin.
A memorial service will be held at the Spearfish United Methodist Church at 10:30am on Friday, May 30th with burial following at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. A memorial has been established at the Spearfish United Methodist Church.
