William "Bill" C. Povandra, age 68, of Spearfish, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Bill was born at Lead, SD on August 24, 1943, to Charles and Mable (Smith) Povandra. He was raised in Spearfish and graduated from Spearfish High School. He worked for Homestake Mining Company, Lumber and Timber Department and Homestake Forest Products until the mill burned down. He then started to work with the Spearfish Police Department and retired in 2002. He was also active with the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department, Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service, Fraternal Order of Police, Foster Parent Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Black Hills Model "T" Club.
On June 6, 1965 he married Shirley Davis and they lived their entire married life in Spearfish.
Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Spearfish; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Ashley and grandson, Braiden of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Ray Telkamp of Spearfish; nephews, Christopher and wife Marni and their son Brock of Centennial, CO, Scott Telkamp and family of Gillette, WY and Lee Telkamp and family of Johnstown, CO; niece Betty McKellar and family of Hillsdale, NJ; sister-in-law and brother-in-¬law Geraldine and Rex Keller of Sioux Falls; nephew, Brent Keller and niece, Kimberly Keller of Sioux Falls; his "Adopted " sons Travis Heeringa, Bob Kennedy, Jared Farley and Ryan Anderson; and several cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Charles and mother-in-law and father-in-law Betty and Gerald Davis.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Spearfish United Methodist Church, with Pastor Scott McKirdy officiating. Memorials have been established to the Rapid City Professional Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corp. and the Spearfish Foundation for Public Education.
