Obituary

William "Bill" Ralph Nachatilo, Jr., 82 of Spearfish, South Dakota,  beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the community, passed away peacefully at his home on January 9th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Bill was born on December 12, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to proud parents William Nachatilo, Sr. and Evelyn Siewert Rankin.  The family moved to Butte, North Dakota, where Bill grew up surrounded by the love of his three brothers, Marvin, Jerry, and Curtis, and four sisters, Sandra, Karen, Kathe, and Carla.

From a young age, Bill demonstrated a passion for education.  Bill earned a PhD in education from the University of North Dakota, a testament to his dedication to knowledge and academic excellence.  He climbed the ranks from teacher to Superintendent, leaving an indelible mark on the field.

Upon retiring in Spearfish, Bill and his devoted wife Marsha embraced a new chapter in their lives. Their home became a haven to more than 350 foster children, and they extended their love by adopting five of them.  Their commitment to the well-being and future of these children was truly remarkable.

Bill was an active 30-year member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Spearfish, serving as a valued board member.  His dedication to his faith and community extended to his involvement in organizations such as Kiwanis, the Gideons, and his efforts to bring "Every Man a Warrior" to Spearfish.  Bill especially enjoyed spending time with family.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William, Sr. and Evelyn, siblings Marvin, Sandra, and Curtis Nachatilo, and son Austin Nachatilo.  In addition to his loving wife Marsha, Bill is survived by his children Scott Nachatilo (Stefani), Tammy Svejkowsky, Krystal Murphy Johnson (Ron), Tony Rebich (Susi), Vanessa Buchanan (Adam), Alex Nachatilo (Tasia High Hawk), Vickie Nachatilo (Laura), and Emily Nachatilo-Miller (Dustyn). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched through his dedication to education and community service.

A celebration of Bill's life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 15th, 2024 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Spearfish, burial at Rose Hill Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bill's memory.
