William "Bill" Lynn, 86 of Spearfish died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Born May 3, 1927, William Lloyd Lynn, lived in Nemo and Lead, SD; and at the age of 12, moved to Spearfish. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1945, attended the University of SD, earning a Bachelor's degree in 1949, a master's degree in 1960 and his doctorate in 1968.
Bill was a successful KDSJ radio announcer from 1949-1951; a school teacher, counselor, and college professor from 1951-1988. His career spanned the country from Richmond, WA to Belle Fourche, SD and Black Hills State University, Eastern Washington University and South Dakota State University.
He was an active member of: All Angels Episcopal Church, several educational affiliations including, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Delta Kappa.
He continued involvement with the causes for children with the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Naja Shrine, Spearfish Flying Aces and a charter member of the Spearfish Kiwanis Club.
Our Dad, a man of great integrity, strength and humility lived a full and rewarding life. He believed in the goodness of people, the pursuit of a hard day's work and the reward at day's end: Dignity restored.
He loved his Lord, his wife Gay, of 64 years and his family. He gave of himself quietly, unselfishly and without reservation.
In these ways he has taught his children how to live. We have seen the results of the "hard day's work" in lives that dad has touched. We have seen, and felt, and rejoiced in the reward at day's end. And, with every turn, we see good people.
Continuing the legacy that Bill began are his children, Friel and Laura, Gae and Mark, Glee and Jay, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Though we miss our Dad in our daily lives, we look forward to the reunion to come.
"Well done, good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of the Lord." - Matthew 25:23
