William "Gilbert" Alan passed away on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022, in Spearfish SD at age 96.

Born on August 31st, 1925, to William and Lempi (Metsala) Alan in Lead SD. The family moved to the Alan Ranch in Whitewood Valley in the mid 30's. Where Gilbert lived for the remainder of his life.

He was baptized and confirmed by the Lutheran church. Gilbert was a devout Christian and read the Bible from cover-to-cover numerous times.

He was a member of the last class to graduate from Whitewood High School in 1943. Gilbert took pride in being the top academic student in his class.

Gilbert always looked at the world through kind eyes and with a trusting heart. He treated everyone he met with compassion and respect.

Gilbert was a master gardener and an avid fisherman in the summer. In the winter you could find him in the woods cutting firewood.

Although Gilbert had no children of his own, he was a dearly loved uncle, who will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by father William, mother Lempi, sister Miriam, and brothers Elmer and Heino.

Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 920 Filmore St. Whitewood SD on January 15th at 10 a.m. With a luncheon to follow. The service will also be live-streamed through the church's web page. The burial will follow at the Whitewood Cemetery

Honorary Pallbearers include nephews Jim, Bill, Tom, Joe, Bob, and Jon Harrison.
