Wilbur "Mike" West, 67 of Deadwood passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Fort Meade Veteran Administration Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with visitation 1 hour before the service. Burial will be at 12:30 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Wilbur was born on October 21, 1943 to Wilbur D and Lillian (Klein) West in Rapid City, SD. He attended School in Deadwood before enlisting in the National Guard in 1964. He enlisted in the Navy in 1968 and enlisted in the National Guard again in 1971 and was discharged in 1986. He married Pauline "Polly" Meisel on May 8, 1970 in Hettinger, ND. He was also employed by the Homestake Mining Company for 27 years.

Wilbur volunteered the last several years at Fort Meade VA Hospital and the last 2 years in the Chaplains Office. He had his Lifetime Membership to the American Legion Homestake Post 31, Enlisted Mens Association and a member of the Terry Cemetery Association.

He is survived by his wife Polly of Deadwood; daughter Maria (Wayne) Hedger of Sturgis; grandsons Donald E. West Jr., Lawrence T. West, Clint Buntyn and Donnie Buntyn; granddaughters Michelle Slutz, Kimmberly A. West and Cristina M. West, five sisters; Ida West, Carla West and Marla West all of Spearfish, Anita Lewis of Herford, AZ and Kathy Koch of Custer and two brothers, John West of Albia, IA and Bill West of Sioux Falls.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sons Donald E. West and Wilbur (Willie) M. West; brothers Patrick West, Darrell West, Russell West and Robert West and sister Mary West.
