Wendelin "Wendy" Paul Aberle, 79, of Spearfish, SD, died Tuesday, October 09, 2007 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care. Wendy passed away surrounded by family after a brief illness.
Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Vigil and Rosary services will be at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 11, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 12, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Timothy Hoag as Celebrant. Committal services will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
A memorial has been established to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis and St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
Wendy was born in Selfridge, ND, on November 08, 1927 to Michael and Julia (Schmaltz) Aberle. He grew up in Arpan where the family leased several farms over the years. He married Lorraine Manning on June 30, 1948. The couple lived in Lead where they raised their family, until moving to Spearfish upon their retirement. Wendy worked at Homestake Gold Mine for 38 years. He was employed as a miner, supervisor and foreman.
Wendy's hobbies included golf, gardening, cribbage, and maintenance for Country Club Village and driving cars for Queen City Motors. Wendy enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities as well as Black Hills State University sporting events.
Having been blessed in sharing Wendy's life are his wife of fifty-nine years, Lorraine Aberle, 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Jim and Cathie Aberle and children, Laura (James) Rogers, Missy (Cas) Schneller, Natalie (Michael) Tognetti and Edie; Chuck and Sue Hohenthaner and children, Sarah and fiancé Chris Cesear , Bryan and Erin; Jerry and Amy Aberle and children, Chad, Lindsey, Neddie, Callie, and Shawn; Mike and Christy Aberle and children, Emily and Molly. He is also survived by his sisters, Eva and Orville Brand of Fredrick, MD, Genevieve Staud of Aledo, TX, brothers, John and Terese Aberle of Spearfish, Bill and LaVonne Aberle of Littleton, CO, Tony and Rose Aberle of Ft. Collins, CO, Joe and Genevieve Aberle of Longmont, CO, brother-in-law, Lee Ronfeldt of Hot Springs, SD, and sister-in-law, Marion Aberle of Arcadia, CA.
Wendy was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Julia Aberle, sisters; Regina, Maggie, Mary, Judy, and Annie, and brothers; Matthew and Kenneth.
