Obituary
Welchie O. Patterson, 80, Hulette, WY, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Welchie Oscar Patterson was born October 12, 1933 in Lusk, Wyoming to Welchie E. and Pearl (Westerman) Patterson. Growing up in Van Tassel, Wyoming, Welchie continued through school until he left for the military. Welchie dedicated 20 years of his life to protecting his country in the United States Navy. Upon his honorable discharge, Welchie moved his family out to his home state of Wyoming. We lost more than a husband and father today, we lost the person to whom we looked up to and tried to emulate on a daily basis. Welchie taught his children with his actions, more than his words, on how to be a good person. Both sons, Welchie M. and Daniel W. Patterson joined the military just to follow in his footsteps and retired honorably because that is what he did. Welchie taught his children to treat everybody they met as a friend and try to help those who need it before they ask. These are but a small fraction of the things he passed onto his six children. Our father was the greatest person we knew; a quiet man who knew the value of a hard day's work. There was no sacrifice too large for his kids, this included driving from coast to coast to spend his military leave with them.
The word 'Hero' is bandied about on a daily basis. The word 'Hero' should also be placed on a person who lives his life honorably, who loves his children unconditionally, who makes sacrifices so that his family could have more than he did. Time we spent with father was precious. We wanted to learn all we could from him.
Welchie was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, and one sister. Welchie leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Kathy; his six children, Welchie M (Trice) Patterson, Renea Brown, Yvonne (Dawayne) Palmer, Daniel (Lynn) Patterson, Danielle (Eric) Birlew, and Kimberly (Bryan) Upton. Welchie also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grand children. Rest in Peace ...We Love You!!!
Funeral services for Welchie will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at The Greater Hulett Community Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance.
