Wayne Hamilton, 82 of Sundance, died on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis, SD.

He was born on August 29, 1931 in Sundance to Oliver and Margaret (Barrett) Hamilton. He was raised in Beulah, WY. His mother died in 1943 and Wayne and his father moved to Oregon for a short time before returning to Wyoming.

Mr. Hamilton joined the United Stated Navy in June of 1951 and served during the Korean War abroad the USS Telfair APA-210, including operation "Passage to Freedom" in August of 1954 in which the ship evacuated Vietnamese refugees from Haiphong in the communist controlled northern half of the newly partitioned Indochina to Saigon in the pro-western southern portion. He was honorably discharged in June 1955.

Mr. Hamilton returned to work for his brother-in-law, Leo Crago on his ranch near Aladdin, WY. In 1962, Wayne moved to Hardin, Montana and began working as a police officer with his brother, Bob Hamilton. Wayne was married in 1971 and later divorced. He moved back to Beulah in 1976 and later to Sundance where he worked in the timber industry as a log cutter until his retirement in the mid 90's.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Olive Crago of Sundance; nieces and nephews, Sydney Shoun of Sundance, Rock Hamilton of Yulee, Florida, Mike Hamilton of Billings, Montana, Shari Sayler of Kuna, Idaho, Dan Hamilton of Colstrip, Montana and David Hamilton of Gillette, Wyoming; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-brothers, Homer and Wallace, brother, Bob, niece, Patty Mollenbrink and nephew, Jerry Crago.

Graveside service will be at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Green Mountain Cemetery in Sundance.
