Warren "Bud" Lester Moe was born May 9, 1925 to Ingvold and Helen (Svihovec) Moe at Regent, North Dakota. He attended schools in Alden Township at Regent. He left home at an early age and worked at different jobs in Hettinger and Regent, ND.
In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy. He spent most of his time in the Pacific Ocean. He was honorably discharged in May 1946. He then returned to the North Dakota area.
He was united in marriage to Fern Gordon August 2, 1947 in Dickinson, ND. They left North Dakota in the fall of 1949, relocating to the Aladdin and Beulah, WY areas. They remained in that area until 1953, where he went to work for Stoneberger Construction and later for Homestake Mining Co in Lead, SD. In 1954 he moved to St. Onge to the Denit Sorenson farm and started a cow milking operation. He later purchased the land & farm and has resided there ever since. He loved farming and working the land and anything to do with tractors and farm equipment.
He served on several area boards. He was on the Patron's Oil Company Board and Butte Electric Board for 25 years. He won a certificate of achievement for soil conservation in 1963. He entered in the Co-Op hall of fame in Huron, SD in September 1991. He served on the St. Onge School Board, and also received a lifetime of service award from the St. Onge Volunteer Fire Department. Warren and Fern received the Agriculture Producers award in 2005 at the Center of the Nation Awards Banquet in Belle Fourche.
He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood on February 7, 1954. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish, since 1963.
He is survived by his wife Fern (Gordon) Moe, daughter, Nancy (Chuck) Sloan, daughter –in-law Patty Moe, four grandson; Chad and Kelly Moe, CJ and Clay Sloan, and one granddaughter, Robin Brown, seven great-grandchildren and one brother, Norman Moe, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gordon and Terrance, along with a daughter Judy and a son Tommy who died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by his parent, grandparents, three brothers and six sisters.
Visitation for "Bud" will be 4PM-7PM, Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 8, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
