Waneta M. Kyte, 71 of Spearfish passed away on December 4, 2021 at Monument Health in Spearfish.

Waneta was born February 2, 1950 to James and Sylvia (Severin) Rahn at Winner, SD. She graduated from High School in 1970 from Elk Point, SD. She was united in marriage to Michael Kyte on May 19, 1973 in Elk Point. The couple moved to Spearfish in 1975, where Waneta worked at Ft. Meade for the State of South Dakota Archeology. She then went to work for the US Forest Service, retiring in the mid 1990's. Waneta was active with the Spearfish Farmer's Market for many years, serving as a board member and also making various varieties of jam over the years. She also enjoyed traveling with Mike to the annual Seabees's reunions throughout the United States.

Waneta is survived by her husband of 48 years Mike Kyte of Spearfish; two sons, James (Robyn) Kyte of Lead, SD and Michael (Jessie) Kyte of Indiana; five grandchildren, McLayne (Tim) Hochstetler, McKinly Kyte, McGuyre Kyte, Nathan Kyte and Ester Kyte; one great-grandchild, William Hochstetler and sister Jane (Doug) Edwards of Gann Valley, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Burial will take place at a later time at Black Hills National Cemetery.
