Walter Edwin Stagemeyer, 81 of Sundance, Wyoming passed away September 10, 2014 at his home.
Graveside inurnment will be at 2:00pm, Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Sundance. A reception will follow at the Sundance Senior Citizens Center.
A memorial has been established to benefit the Old Stoney Restoration Committee.
Walter was born May 13, 1933 to Charles and Dorothy (Schulz) Stagemeyer in Sundance. He was the third of six children. Walter was part of the 1951 graduating class from Sundance High School (Old Stoney). Since he had met all the requirements to graduate, he enlisted in the US Navy on January 9, 1951 to serve the country he loved, he joined his older brothers; Charles "Bud" and Ted, who were both serving in the US Army. After serving three years in the Navy, he returned to Sundance and married Beverly Baker, to this union three children were born; Bill, Trudy and Toby.
Walter worked in various occupations, such as the logging industry, US Forest Service, the mines in Lead, SD and Butte, MT, before accepting a position with Wyoming Department of Transportation. Walter retired from the WYDOT in 1988 after 28 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, hunting and traveling.
Walter is survived by his wife Beverly Stagemeyer of Sundance, son Bill ( Theresa) Stagemeyer of Apache Junction, AZ, two daughters, Trudy (Paul) Materi of Sundance and Toby (Gary) Shamion of Sundance, 10 grandchildren; Nikki (Rodney) Frey, Candace (Kael) Sorrells, Tyler Stagemeyer, Crystal Materi, Jaelene (Larry) Ritterhouse, Jason (Rachel) Materi, Sidney Materi, Taylor Materi, Kyle Shamion and Colin Shamion, 11 great-grandchildren; Hali Materi, Braylan Materi, Audriana Materi, Carmen Materi, Jacob Ritterhouse, Carson Ritterhouse, Marley Materi, Collier Materi, Bentley Sorrells, Wyatt Frey and Weston Frey, two brothers, Charles "Bud" Stagemeyer of Sundance and Ronnie (Virginia) Stagemeyer of Ranchester, WY and sister, Delores Hunt of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ted and an infant sister, Marjorie.
