Obituary

Virginia Eckhart, 80 of Lead, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.

Virginia was born on July 8, 1934 in Aberdeen, SD to Ellsworth and Ema (Vanhouten) Eckhart. The family moved to Roubiax before moving to Nevada Gulch Road in 1942. She attended school in Lead and Deadwood and graduated from Lead High School. After high school she went to work at Rocky Cove with her sisters, Kay and Eleanor. In 1965, she started working at the Lead High School. Every morning her nieces, Jennifer and Leslie, would stop by the small break room called the "Dog House" to say "Hi" before school started.

Her son, Ricky was born in 1959. She retired from the high school as a custodian in 1992. She stayed at home with her mom and dad to help them out and to take care of Ricky. When Virginia became ill, Ricky quit working to take care of her. She and Ricky still lived on Nevada Gulch Road at the time of her death.

She is survived by her son, Ricky of Lead; sister, Eleanor Adamson of Florida; and brother, Darwin Eckhart of Lead. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Darlene Dillman and Kay Penrod and brother, Gary Eckhart.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Deadwood.
