Obituary

On April 2nd, we lost our mom, Virginia Ruth (Hoverson) Bry. She was a great mom and will be lovingly remembered.

Ginny was born September 15, 1924, in Grand Forks, ND, to Rueben and Ethel (Brown) Hoverson. She was raised in Manvel, ND, and graduated from Manvel High School at the age of 16 in 1941. She moved to Vallejo, CA, to join her parents and two brothers, Dale and Rodgers, who had moved the previous year. She worked as a bank teller for Bank of America during WWII while developing a love of chocolate covered cherries. On August 24, 1946 she married Kenneth Bry, also from Manvel. She attended College of the Pacific, and later Diablo Valley College. Ginny and Ken raised their three children in Concord, CA, moving to Spearfish, SD in 2002. Ken died in December of that year, after 56 years of wedded bliss.

Ginny was actively involved in music from the age of 8, first playing for church services in Manvel. She retired as Church Organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Concord, after many years, then joined the choir. In Spearfish she played handbells with the choir at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, playing alongside her daughter. Shortly before her death she enjoyed hearing one grandson learn the melodica, Red River Valley was a frequent request.

Ginny was active in the Spearfish community, quilting with the quilting group at church. She was good at seeing knots that weren't there. She had sewn forever, and done much handwork.

Ginny and Ken believed in education. They funded post high school tuition for children and grandchildren. It is a much appreciated, lasting legacy their children hope to continue.

Ginny is survived by brother Rodgers Hoverson, Anacortes, WA, children Erik (Marlene) Bry, Garden Valley, ID, Randi (David) Smith, Spearfish, and Curtis (Laura) Bry, Arlington, WA, 8 grandchildren, Erik, Jessica, Jeremy, Andrew, Nicholas, Matthew, Caitlin, and Marcus, and one great grandchild, Milena, and many relatives and friends. While the grandchildren may be low in numbers, they make it up in quality. They all seem to have inherited Ginny's love of travel, adventure, and humor.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Savior's Quilters or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
