Obituary

Virgil Weber, 86 of Spearfish, passed away on November 28, 2023, with his wife by his side.

Virgil William Weber was born on November 5, 1937, in Mitchell, SD to Joseph & Josephine (Wermers) Weber, the 9th of 11 children. Virgil grew up on a farm near Dimock, SD, and attended school in Dimock. In July of 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1962.

Virgil went to work at the Ethan Coop lumber yard and on May 2, 1959, he married Eleanor Berg in a double wedding ceremony with his brother Jerome Weber and Eleanor's sister, Rita Berg.

The couple lived in Ethan, where Virgil became manager of the Ethan Coop. While living in Ethan, three of their children were born, Barbara, Ronald, and Wayne. In 1963, Virgil moved his young family to Spearfish where he became manager of Black Hills Pole Building Co. There, their 4th child, Keith was born in 1964. In 1970, Virgil formed his own company, Weber Building Services, and remained self-employed until his retirement.

Virgil thoroughly enjoyed kids and they loved him. He became very active in Little League, serving as president of Spearfish Little League, and was instrumental in getting bleachers built at the Little League field. He was also a hands-on scout dad. Virgil served on the Spearfish Valley Sanitation Board and was a member of the Spearfish Volunteer Fire Dept, Spearfish Lions Club, St Joseph Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

Virgil loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and ATV-ing. He so enjoyed traveling during his retirement and the many friends he made while wintering in Arizona. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, and watching sports of every kind. Virgil had an extraordinary enthusiasm for life, his personality lit up every room he entered, and greeted every day with a cheerful attitude. His family and friends were so special to him and each day was a blessing.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter Barb (Bill) of Westport, SD; sons Ron (Lana) of Spearfish, Wayne (Robbie) Santa Clarita, CA, Keith (Patti) Windsor, CO; ten grandchildren Jesse (Marka) Moser, Lindsey Moser (Tom Jackson), Travis, Tyrel, David (Ambar), Kevin, Tim, Mitch, Chris (Kaitlin), Jared Weber; seven great-grandchildren Jack & Mackenzie Moser, Bennett & Marleigh Jackson and Mireya, Cayson & Conner Weber.
