Violet Herren, 89 of New Underwood, SD passed away peacefully on May 2, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, SD.

Violet was born on July 1, 1926 at Faith, SD to John and Laura (Johnson) Anderson. She attended school in Faith and graduated in 1946. Violet attended one summer of Teacher's College in Aberdeen.

Violet married George "Bud" Herren on June 26, 1946 in Sturgis, SD. To this union were born two sons, Robert "Bob", John and five daughters, Sherolyn, Vicky, Twyla, Rhonda and Patty. The couple farmed and ranched, Violet taught at various country schools and worked at the Dupree School in the kitchen until retirement and then moved to Spearfish.

Violet was known for her homemade bread, buns and cinnamon rolls. She also liked playing whist.

Violet is survived by her sons, Bob (Kathie) Herren, Sioux Falls, John (Bobbie Jo) Herren, Hayes; daughters, Twyla Reede (Dave Bultje), Corsica, Rhonda (Bart) McLellan, Spearfish and Patty Herren, Spearfish; eleven grandchildren; eighteen and a half great-grandchildren; brother, LeRoy (Ruth) Anderson; brother-in-law, John (Helen) Wall.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bud; daughters, Sherolyn and Vicky; parents John and Laura Anderson; brother, Arville; sister, Mildred and daughter-in-law, Kathi.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the United Church of Christ in Dupree. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Dupree Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Good Samaritan Activities Department in New Underwood.
