Viola Sinner, 62, Spearfish, SD passed away on August 21, 2013 at her home.
Viola was born in Deadwood, SD on January 15, 1951 and became part of Northern Hills Training Center in Spearfish, on October 1, 1977. Viola resided at the Hickory House in Spearfish, where she participated in many activities. She particularly enjoyed coffee with friends, napping in the lobby, bingo on Thursday's, being active in church and reminding J.C., a friend, to slow down in the hallways. Viola had many important staff who supported her in her home that took her shopping, out for Saturday coffee, out to "Breakfast Club" with friends, to downtown Friday Nights and to catch up with former staff. Viola loved going out for lunch/dinner dates and could always save enough room for that piece of pie at the Cedar House.
Viola worked in many different jobs in the Spearfish community over her life including the Spearfish High School lunchroom, NHTC's work crews and NHTC's Harvard workshop. Viola enjoyed working, not so much for the money, but for the friendships and socialization. She made daily a.m. rounds through the building to visit staff and friends. For the people she loved, it was a daily expectation to get a daily chat, get picked on, be elbowed in the ribs, get knocked in the arm or get a big hug.
Viola had many people in her life who loved and cared for her outside of Northern Hills Training Center. She stayed busy and was on the go with the Quinn, Myers, Bush, Ginsbach, Holben, Witt and Nicholas families.
Viola was every bit as important to these families as their own relation. The children in these families grew up calling and will remember Viola as their "Grandma".
Viola was taken from us with an ongoing battle with cancer. She will be missed by all that were blessed to have her in their lives.
Memorial Services for Viola will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. A Memorial has been established to benefit Viola's friends at Northern Hills Training Center.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
