Victor Westrum, 93 of Spearfish died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care.
Graveside services will be on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Black Hills National Cemetery with Pastor Kent Stillson officiating.
Victor was born on April 29, 1917 to Oliver and Gena (Olson) Westrum at Clearbrook, MN. He grew up near Harlow, ND on the family farm and entered the Army during World War II serving from May 1942 until December 1945 in the European Theater, Italy, France, Germany and North Africa. He married Viola J. Halvorson on January 2, 1946 in Deadwood, SD. They made their home in Kallispell, MT where he worked for Glacier National Park. They moved to Seattle, WA and he worked for Boeing Aircraft before making Spearfish their permanent home where he worked for Homestake Forest Products, as well as a part time job with Black Hills Power and Light for many years.
Victor was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD, and in Harlow, ND; a member of VFW Post 757, Harlow, ND, the Homestake Veterans, and when he was employed with Boeing Aircraft, he was a member of the Machinists Union.
He is survived by his wife,Viola Westrum of Spearfish and two grandchildren Eric Westrum of Canada, and Krista Westrum of Laramie, WY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul Westrum in 2001, sisters, Ruth, Pearl and Viola and brothers Odin and Norman.
