Verna Mae Clark, 90 of Sundance, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Crook County Memorial Hospital.
Verna was born on September 11, 1923 at Williams Divide near Sundance to Leslie Earl and Frances (Beck) Jones. She grew up there and attended rural schools, graduating from Sundance High School in 1941. She then attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish and also took off-campus classes through the University of Wyoming. After completing her degree she taught in rural schools in Crook County.
She married Andrew Clark on September 30, 1944 in Sundance. In 1946, they moved to Moskee where Andrew was employed by Homestake and she taught at the Moskee School for many years. In 1953, they moved back to Sundance. For many years she did
tutoring in her home and in 1967 she began working in the office of the Crook County Superintendent of Schools as a deputy. When that office was
discontinued she began working in the County
Treasurer's Office where she worked until she retired in 1988.
She is survived by her son, Alan Clark and his wife Inez and their children Tina, Andrew, Jonathan and Thomas Clark and grandchildren, Tyrell, Francis (Chrystal) and Jamison (Ashley) York. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew, in 1983; her parents; brother, Edwin Jones; sister, June Gray; daughters, Ardith York and Sharon Huber; granddaughter, Anndee Mikole Huber and grandson, Kristopher Paul York.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal in Sundance. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the church or to a memorial of your choice.
