Vera E. Tieman, 93, of Lead, SD, died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00AM on Friday, June 6, 2008, at Trinity Methodist Church in Lead. Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM, with Reverend Paul Thompson officiating.
Committal services will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Fairview Cemetery in Northville, SD.
Vera was born on October 25, 1914 to George and Grace (Nash) Van Houten at Northville, SD. She attended Northville High School. She was a Beauty Operator in Cresbard, SD, before going to work for United States Information Agency (USIA) in Washington DC in 1941. She married Frank Waple in 1943 and he died in 1949. She transferred to California in 1959 and worked in the account section until her retirement in 1978. That same year she married Willard "Vit" Tieman, her high school sweetheart. They made their home in Lead and later in Spearfish until he died in 1991. Vera moved to Deadwood and then eventually returned to Lead.
Vera was preceded in death by her two husbands, Frank Waple and Vit Tieman, a sister, Emma Eckhart, two brothers, Vernon and Burton Van Houten, and a niece Kay Penrod.
Vera is survived by a sister-in-law, Alicia Van Houten of Redfield, SD, two step-sisters, Enid Leigh and Grace Brown, a step-daughter, Mary Ellen Meyer of Washington, nieces and nephews: Eleanor Adamson of Jacksonville, FL, Virginia Eckhart, Darlene Dillman, Darwin Eckhart all of Lead, Gary Eckhart of Sturgis, George Van Houten Jr. of Bloomington, MN, Veronica Krause of Athol, SD, Gloria Stammer of Irvine, CA, and many more nieces, nephews and friends.
