Velma Leola Quenzer, 90, of Spearfish, SD passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
Velma "Teenie" Leola Westbrook Quenzer was born March 8, 1926, in rural Linton, ND.
She was married to John R. Quenzer on September 19, 1944, in Linton, ND. They lived for 12 years on John's father's farm and then moved to Pollock, SD. In 1962, they moved to Deadwood. Teenie worked in the entire Deadwood area cleaning the Lawrence County Courthouse, Unemployment Office, Deadwood Hospital, Wax Museum, Adams Museum, Masonic Temple and many other businesses and private homes. After her retirement in 1990, she moved to Sturgis and then Spearfish.
Teenie was incredibly patriotic. She loved her red, white and blue. Her favorite sayings were, "I love my country", and "I love people". She was always giving hugs to friends, family and anyone she met. Visiting with others was a favorite pastime of hers. Teenie was always the first to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. She had a quick sense of humor, always with a loving smile. She had a deep love for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her heart was filled with kindness and joy. The love for her family was endless. Heaven has gained an incredibly special angel.
Survivors include her children, Adeline (Gordy) Schabel of Stanton, ND, Lorraine (Tim) Hagemann of Belle Fourche, SD, John "Buzz" (Diane) Quenzer of Marion, SD, James (Mary) Quenzer of Gillette, WY, Diane Hannah of Spearfish, SD, Tim (Mel) Quenzer of Gillette, WY and Wilma (Gary Hays) Quenzer of Sturgis, SD; 17 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; brothers Robert Westbrook, James Fischer and Bud Bader; sisters, Elva Shafer, Thelma Bunting and Celia Schutte; step-brother, Edward Langeliers and step-sisters, Sis Sjomeling, Wilma Davis, Alice Slagh and Ruthie Stoecker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, step-parents, Katherine and Lawrence Langeliers and grandson, Steven Webb.
A funeral service will be 2:00pm, Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday, February 14th, and will continue from 9:00am until the time of service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Spring Creek Lutheran Cemetery at Pollack, SD at a later date.
