Velda Edwards, 85 was called home by Angels on April 13, 2019 at the Close to Home Hospice in Gillette.
She was born on April 23, 1933 in Eagle Butte, SD to Bert and Laura Libolt. She graduated from Dupree High School and went on to get her teachers certificate. She taught at a country school in Marine, SD.
She married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Edwards on September 6, 1952. They were married for 59 years when Leonard passed away. He was the TRUE love of her life. In this union they had three children, Laura, Rodney, and Marla.
She had a deep passion for her Lord and her Church. She enjoyed spending time with her friends from the faculty wives club, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family.
She moved to Gillette, WY in the fall of 2016 to be closer to her daughter until her passing. She made several friends in her short time in Gillette.
She was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. People who met her fell in love with her beautiful smile and kind heart.
She is survived by her children, Laura (Paul) Ausderan, Rodney (Pam) Edwards, Marla (Lyle) Schwindt; nine grandchildren, Hans (Penny) Ausderan, Aaron Ausderan, Ian (Kasi) Ausderan, Nick (Terra) Edwards, Latasha Edwards, Jessica (Sean) Wayne, Travis (Alexis) Edwards, Jennifer (Robert) Young, Brandon (Toni) Larson; step-daughters, Kelsey Schwindt, Krista (Alex Kelley) Schwindt, Kayla (Todd) Zenor; ten great-grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and sister, Joyce (Art) Reichert. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, a sister in-law and two brothers in-law.
Visitation will be 5-7pm on April 18, 2019 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at the United Church of Christ on April 19, 2019 at 10 am followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis at 1:30. Memorial will go to the Diabetes Foundation.
