Valerie Jean Munsell, 58, passed away peacefully at her home in Spearfish, surrounded by her
family, on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Valerie was born on September 29, 1956 in Mitchell, SD to Selmer
and Lorraine (Bauer) Dahl. She attended school in Fedora and Artesian, SD and graduated from
Letcher High School in 1972. On September 23, 1972, she married Gary Kaus and they had two
daughters. Their marriage was later annulled and on July 3, 1999, she married Bob Munsell in Rapid
City, SD. Bob and Valerie later renewed their vows at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.

Valerie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She served customers at the Country
Kitchen/Millstone Family Restaurant for 35 years. Giving to others brought her great joy and she was
known for the beautiful cakes she created for special celebrations. Valerie was a true servant of the
Lord and was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She will be dearly missed by all
those who were fortunate to have been a part of her life.

Valerie is survived by her beloved husband, Bob, Spearfish, daughters Melynda (Andrew) Mickool, Trumbull, CT and Tracy (Andy) Mellgren, Alexandria, MN, stepsons; Brian (Kim) Munsell, Rapid City and Brandon Hancock, Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren, five sisters and two brothers.


She is preceded in death by her parents Selmer & Lorraine Dahl, brother-in-law, Bob Gabrielson, niece, Wendi Ripperda, nephew, Justin Munsell and an infant son.

Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM, Tuesday, September, 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, with visitation one hour prior to service. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, September 16, also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.
