Ulric A. Hawken, 97 of Sundance, WY died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Crook County Memorial Hospital in Sundance.
Visitation will be from 6-7 P.M., Monday, September 29, 2008 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance, WY.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Sundance with Marvin Massey officiating, burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.
A memorial has been established to benefit the Sundance Masonic Lodge #9 and the Sundance Senior Citizens Center.
Ulric was born June 20, 1911 on the family ranch south of Sundance to Albert and Lillian (Lyons) Hawken. He attended country school and graduated from Sundance High School in 1931. Following high school Ulric and his brother Earnest operated the ranch. Ulric married Alice Smith on February 3, 1945 in Deadwood, SD. To this union two children were born, Franklin Albert and Nancy Alice. The couple made their home on the family ranch where Ulric was engaged in ranching his entire life. He enjoyed playing cards weekly with his friends and bowled until the age of 95. Ulric remained very active until the time of his death.
Ulric was a member of the Farm Bureau, Wyoming Stock Growers Association, Crook County Horseman's Association, Sundance Masonic Lodge #9 for over 67 years serving as Past Master in 1949, a member of the Kalif Shrine in Sheridan, WY, Black Hills York Rite and Eastern Star Electa Chapter #5 of Sundance.
Survivors include son, Frank and wife Della Sue Hawken of Sundance and daughter, Nancy and husband Rich Steedley of Sundance, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Ulric was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice in 2007, brother Earnest, two sisters, Irene Hines and Romona Hawken, and one great grandson.
