Celebration of Life
Congress Core Center Church Building
7:00 - 8:00 pm (Mountain time)
Troy Dean Buth of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.
He was born to Ronnie and Dolly Buth on March 27, 1966 in Minneapolis, MN and raised in both Strandburg, SD and at Eagle Lake Island Lodge in northwestern Ontario. He often said he had an ideal childhood for someone who loved to fish and hunt and be outdoors.
Troy was a steadfast and committed husband to his wife, Kathy. They were married for 37 years. He was a tenderhearted father to their children Tessa and Caleb. He often told Kathy one of the best days of his life was when he laid eyes on his children for the first time. He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Muellenbach) Buth, children, Tessa (Tyler) Ludens and Caleb (Samantha Pedneau) Buth, mother (Dolly Buth) and brother, Jesse (Leah) Buth. He was preceded in death by his father (Ronald Buth) ten days prior.
Troy earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Services and Sociology from BHSU at the age of 45. But went on to continue in the tile installation business, owning and operating Spearfish Custom Tile for 14 years. He was a master craftsman in the field, specializing in walk-in showers. He said he had ample opportunity to utilize his counselling degree when mediating between husbands and wives on their tile projects.
Troy was known for his internal commitment to God, rooted in faith, a man of integrity, compassion and conviction. He had a heart for human connection and a love for people, always willing to lend a hand or a listening ear. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He had the ability to retell a story multiple times with the same intensity on the last retelling as on the first. He really loved to laugh. And loved it more when he got people to laugh with him. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman with a special love for Eagle Lake, Ontario for both the excellent fishing and the people. To Troy, fishing was always about connection and, through it, he maintained many lifelong relationships and passed on his knowledge and passion for it to his children. He loved to cook, grow tomatoes, go on walks, and discover hidden treasures. He found beauty in the small things and was continually amazed at God’s creation.
A Memorial service to celebrate Troy’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 7 pm at the Congress Core Center church building – 1300 North Ave, Spearfish, SD. A virtual/Zoom option will also be available.
