Obituary

Tillie Stott, 95, died peacefully during the sunrise on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Spearfish Regional Hospital with her children by her side after a short illness.

Tillie was born on December 1, 1924, in Isabel, South Dakota to Alexander and Anna (Bertsch) Zulauf. She was the second child and joined sister Elsie on the farm. As the years progressed, Tillie helped welcome sisters, Esther, Hilda, Irene, Francis, Martha, Clara and brothers, David and Carl to the family. Her younger years were spent working on the farm. In high school she started her first official job, as a waitress at a café in Mobridge where she met a handsome young serviceman, William Stott, who would then become her lifelong partner. They were then married in Isabel on September 23 rd , 1945 and set up their home in Mobridge. A year later they welcomed their first child, William "Bill" who was later joined by daughters, Ruby, Mary, and Delores. They then moved to Deadwood where Tillie would ultimately take on the role she was destined for, that of a mother and homemaker while her husband started work at Homestake Mine. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to an acreage in Englewood where time seemed to slow down and family time was cherished. Upon her husband's death, she moved into the Hickory House in Spearfish where she made many treasured friends.

Throughout her life, Tillie's focus was those she loved. Tillie loved unconditionally and without judgment. Although she was often quiet, she touched the lives of so many with her warm smile and kind heart. Her legacy will live on in those she loved for many years to come. Tillie was also a faithful child of Christ and enjoyed attending weekly services and listening and playing the hymns of the church on her piano, especially Jesus Loves the Little Children. In her final moments, she found comfort and peace in the hymns of the church.

Tillie is survived by her four children, William "Bill" (Barbara) Stott of Deadwood, Ruby (Jerry) Douglas of Pierre, Mary (Louis) Leahy of Spearfish, and Delores (Ron) Holso of Belle Fourche; ten grandchildren, Sharlene, Wade, Brent, Bryce, John, Lindsey, Onna, Robert, Dusty, and Tesha; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, David; and two sisters, Hilda Landis and Irene (Hirsch) Stone.

In addition to her parents, Tillie was preceded in death by her loving husband; an infant son, Robert; sisters, Elsie, Esther, Francis, Martha, and her brother, Carl.

Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. A Celebration of Life funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Tillie will then be laid to eternal rest next to her beloved husband, William at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
