Obituary
Thomas R. Voorhis died peacefully at home in Spearfish, South Dakota, surrounded by
family on January 25th, 2015.
He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on August 29th, 1945. He was a graduate of Chamberlain High School (1963) in Chamberlain, South Dakota. He attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, South Dakota where he received his Bachelors Degree in Education. He taught and coached in several Rapid City Schools, Bennett County, and Takini. Tom was appointed program director in the early 1970's at the Rapid City YMCA. He was an acclaimed artist for over 35 years using several different mediums.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Juanita Voorhis, and his brother Robert Voorhis.
He is survived by his five children; Les Voorhis, Clara Garvin-Grable, Jessica Tritt, Tommy Voorhis, and Charley Voorhis, former spouse, Cheryl Voorhis, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Services will be held at The Snappers Club in Spearfish City Park on Saturday, January 31st at 5:00 PM. Dinner and refreshments will follow the service.
