Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Speidel was born December 23, 1933 to Jacob and Christina Speidel at Wishek, ND; he died April 21, 2009 at his home in Sundance, WY.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, April 24, 2009 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance.

Funeral services will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Sundance Methodist Church, with Pastor Duane Simonson officiating, burial will follow at Green Mountain Cemetery in Sundance.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

The Speidel family moved from North Dakota to western South Dakota when Ted was 3 or 4 years old. They moved to Sundance in 1949, where Ted graduated from Sundance High School in 1951. He married Darlene Seeley on August 27, 1951. Ted and Darlene lived in Denver, CO, for a year before returning to Sundance where they have lived ever since. Ted worked at the Phillips 66 Hi-way Service Station for Raymond Vines for many years before purchasing the business. In 1980 he went to work at the Wyodak Power Plant in Gillette, WY. He retired from there in 2000 after 20 years. Ted enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and was real proud of his John Deere Equipment.

Ted was baptized at Wishek, ND, confirmed at Evangelical Reformed Lutheran Church in Nisland, SD, and was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Sundance for many years.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Jacob, Ben, Gottlieb and Edwin, and one sister Ida Lederman.

Ted is survived by his wife Darlene of Sundance, their children; Susan (Bob) Gerkin of Nisland, Terry (Joyce) Speidel of Sundance, Mike (Sherrie) Speidel of Lincoln, NE, and Trudy (Roy) Castle of Gillette, his sisters; Edna Barnhart of Florida, Loraine Henwood of Belle Fourche, SD, and Donna Lamb of Sundance, his grandchildren: Jennifer LaPlante, Jonathan Gerkin, Rusty Speidel, Bruce Speidel, Mandy Biley, Joshua Speidel, Nathan Speidel, Shawn Speidel, Jared Speidel, Danielle Amiotte and Nicole Amiotte, and 15 great grandchildren.
