Ted attended school in Moorcroft, where he met Bonnie Thelma Etheridge. He decided this was the girl for him and they were married Sept. 4th 1936 and shared almost 78 years together. Ted worked on several ranches around the Moorcroft and Gillette area. Along with the many ranching chores he also started building reservoirs and Thelma was usually hired on to help with the cooking. While living in Moorcroft Ted's father-in-law, Kelly Etheridge, taught him blacksmithing. In 1946 Ted and his family moved to Sundance where he opened a repair and blacksmith shop. In late 1949 Ted moved his family to Sunny Divide where they had purchased a small grocery store, cabins and gas station. While living at Sunny Divide Kinsley/Moore began the construction of Keyhole Reservoir so Ted went to work with them batching all of the concrete for the dam. When that was completed he worked in their shop as a mechanic. Ted worked at Keyhole for about two years during which time they sold the place on Sunny Divide and moved back to Sundance. When the dam was completed, Ted went to work for the Wyoming Highway Department as shop foreman where he worked until his retirement in 1982. While working for the Highway Department Ted built a shop and continued his mechanic work and blacksmithing. He was one of a few people who could still sharpen and hard surface plow shares. During this time Ted also was a rural route mail carrier for the US Postal Service.
