Straitor V. Clark, 96 of Sundance, WY passed away Monday, November 10, 2008 at Crook County Long Term Care in Sundance.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 14, 2008 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sundance with Reverend Father Cliff Moore officiating, burial will follow at Green Mountain Cemetery in Sundance.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Shriner's Children's Travel Fund, Crook County Nursing Home Activity Fund and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Straitor was born near Inyan Kara Mountain to Nathan and Hilma (Peterson) Clark on July 14, 1912. He was the oldest of nine children. As a young man he worked as a ranch hand. He married Elaine Sorensen on June 14, 1941 in Deadwood, South Dakota. He was employed at the A.O. Banks ranch where they made their home. Their four children were born while living there and they also adopted another child. They leased this ranch for thirty years before moving to Sundance. He worked for Wyoming Highway Department, City of Sundance and Tri-County Electric. In his spare time he also worked for various ranchers helping with calving and haying. He drove fuel transport from Glenrock to Sundance for Raymond Vines of the Phillips 66 service station.
He was an avid hunter and guide, making lifetime friends from all over the country. He and other local hunters would travel to the Jackson area for elk and moose hunts, and would return with filled licenses and tall tales.
Straitor was hired by Jay Durfee to help build the Sundance Golf Course. He also helped build the Sundance rodeo grounds. He was an avid cowboy and had a great love and understanding of horses.
He was a fifty year member of the Sundance Masonic Lodge #9. He also was a member of Sundance OES Electa Chapter #5, Kalif Temple Shriners of Sheridan, Knights Templer, York Rite and Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Straitor is survived by his wife Elaine of 67 years, one sister, Myra (Hal) Clingan of Newcastle, WY, one brother, Charles (Lavonne) Clark of Newcastle, two sons, Jim (Vickie) Clark of Sundance, and Larry of Texas, three daughters; Joanne (Darrell) Nicholas of Spearfish, SD, Judy (Bill) Grof of Idaho Falls, ID and Janet (Mike) Hutchinson of Newcastle. He was also survived by seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.
