Stewart Reed, 94, passed away peacefully at Fort Meade Hospital on October 28, 2026, in Fort Meade, SD.
Stewart was born on September 14, 1932, in Merriman, Nebraska, to John and Pansy Reed. He graduated from Deadwood High School in 1951. While attending college at CSU in Colorado, Stewart met the love of his life, Connie Graham. On December 23, 1957, they were united in marriage. Together, they raised three children: Rick, Julie, and Ronnie. As his family grew, Stewart cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren, always lending a hand to help care for them.
Throughout his life, Stewart dedicated his life to hard work and his family, spending years at the Homestake sawmill and Pope & Talbot before retiring from the McLaughlin sawmill. Deeply rooted in his faith; he was a long-time, faithful member of the Hillsview Church of the Nazarene. An avid outdoorsman, Stewart loved hunting in the Black Hills and fly fishing for trout in the local creeks. He was a passionate fan of the Denver Broncos and deeply loved traveling back to Colorado with his wife. Stewart was a simple man, but his love, kindness, and unwavering faithfulness made a profound impact on everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pansy Reed, and his brother, Stanley Reed: and his granddaughter Mallory Ann. He is survived by his beloved wife, Connie Reed of Spearfish, SD; his sister, Margot Duff; his children, Rick (Theresa) Reed of Spearfish, SD, Ronnie (Holly) Reed of Sturgis, SD, and Julie Reed of Spearfish, SD; his grandchildren, Melissa (Shane) O'Connor of Spearfish, SD, Derrick Reed of Lead, SD, Tessa (Tom) Jaskowiak of Colorado, Miranda (David) Zito of Arizona, and Rio Reed of Spearfish, SD; and his great-grandchildren.
