IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven
Sproul
February 2, 1948 – February 5, 2022
Steve Sproul, 74, of Moorcroft, Wyoming passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2022.
Steve was born on February 2, 1948 in Stoughton, Wisconsin to James and Ruthann (Greig) Sproul. He was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stoughton, WI. He attended Stoughton public schools and was a member of the class of 1966. Steve was proud to serve our country as a United States Marine. He served from 1965-1969 which included one tour of duty in Vietnam. On October 19, 1974, Steve married Sonjia Osthus in Omaha, NE. They have three children, Sara, Annie, and Sean. Steve worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 27 years. In 2001 Steve, Sonjia, and Sean formed SAS Consulting, a scale testing company. They operated the company for 18 years until they sold it in 2019.
Steve enjoyed spending time at the acreage near Keyhole Reservoir, that he and Sonjia purchased in 1998. A main hobby, for Steve, has been building his own full scale railroad. He loved to give family and friends a ride down the 500 foot "short line"! Steve was a member of North American Railrcar Operators Association, which allowed him to go on excursions using railroad lines around the country. He really enjoyed those trips! Steve also enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Levis and Lace Square Dance Club. For Steve, family was a priority. He showed his children and grandchildren what a loving home and marriage looks like. He thoroughly enjoyed being a dad, and grandpa! He loved teaching them everything from how to ride a motorcycle to playing chess. He was always happy to support them through their school endeavors from kindergarten through college. The best part for Steve was having fun with his family. The family enjoyed countless outdoor adventures from camping to "canoe sledding" and Steve was always up for a game of cards or dice. One of the most recent adventures being the installation of a zip-line for the grandkids out in the trees! Steve couldn't help himself from lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved to visit and shoot the breeze with all, be it a longtime friend or someone passing through. He always had a twinkle in his eye and would flash that "Little Rascal" grin when dishing out a friendly tease.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sonjia; two daughters, Sara and Annie; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Ashley; four granddaughters, Marla, Reagan, Kyndall, and Averie; siblings, Dianne, David, Kathy, Jeff, Connie, Sally, Jayne, Paul, Kevin, Larry, Penny, "Little" Steve, Pat, John, and Pete; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Also proud to have had Steve as a brother-in-law are Sonjia's siblings, Dave, Tom (deceased), Jeff, Pam, Brad, and Joe. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruthann; father, James; and brothers, Gary and Dean.
