Obituary

Stanley Weber, 95 of Spearfish, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at his home resting after a long productive life.

He was born in St Peter, MN to Leo and Barbara (Stumper) Weber on October 1, 1919. He moved with his parents and sisters to Dickinson, ND as a child. He attended school in Dickinson and worked with his father in the hatchery and poultry processing business.

He married Helen May Freed on June 1, 1943. He entered the Army in 1944 and did his training in Washington State. In July 1944, he arrived in Hawaii and the was shipped to Pahru Islands in the South Pacific where he worked as a typist clerk. He was transported on the LST Landing Ship-his company was the Aviation Engineer BN and their jobs were to build everything from latrines to airstrips. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946.

After his service, he returned to Dickinson where he ran the hatchery selling poultry, eggs, live turkeys, chickens geese and ducks. He bought from the local farmers, processed the meat and sold to Chicago markets. He bought eggs from farmers and shipped them to Kellogg, Idaho. He also hatched eggs and sold chickens to local farmers.

In 1958, he worked for KG Men's Store which he bought in 1964. He sold the men's store in 1976, but kept the western stock and opened Weber's Western Wear. He sold this and "Retired" to Spearfish in 1981.

Stan was an active volunteer with the Passion Play from 1982-2004. He was a Roman Guard and later tended to the animals as they went through town. He was also very active and faithful at St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Weber; children, Judy Weber, St. Louis, MO, Mary Lynette (Joseph) Spicka, Sun Lakes, AZ, Patrick Weber, Spearfish, Carol (Dave) Enderle, Spearfish, Barb (Jeff) Kuhn, Dickinson, ND, Michael Weber, Spearfish, Laurie Sue (Tom) Hegna, Fountain Hills, AZ and Karla Weber, Spearfish; 24 grandchildren, Susan, Karen, John, Tom, Kati, Jim, Steven, Brian, Heather, Jennifer, Jason, Mike, Mitch, Marrissa, Michaela, Kari, Ben, Jaden, Cole, Cade, Ryan, Sean, JJ and Sami; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alice and Kathleen and an infant great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6-7 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with the Vigil following at 7PM. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
