Stanley Sherman Steffen, 79, of Lead, SD, passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on September 14, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Stanley was born April 1, 1936 in Britton, SD to Floyd and Irene (Kishner) Steffen. He worked 33 years for Homestake Mine. After retirement, he helped Ralph Harder, Auctioneer when Ralph needed him. Stanley also helped John Meade build some apartments. He and Duane Wilcox did many things together, work and play. He was a member of the VFW in Deadwood, SD.
Stanley was a dedicated, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and worker.
He is survived by his wife, Noreen; his three daughters, Helen J. Steffen, Irene A. Daywitt and Kimberly K. Steffen all of Lead; a granddaughter, Dena D. Steffen (Lovebug), Lead; two brothers, Alfred (Judy) Steffen of Minnesota and Larry Steffen of Missouri; a sister, Audrey Robinson of Iowa; Sister-in-law Maxine Steffen; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces and cousins.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Jacob Steffen; sisters Gloria Mae Schmit and Marilyn Zimmerman; brothers Maynard Steffen and Harold Steffen; sisters-in-law Marilyn and Delores Steffen; brothers-in-law Donald Schmit and George Zimmerman; niece Rebecca Schmit; nephews Dale Robinson, Francis Zimmerman and Mark Steffen; great nephew Jeramy Schmit; and cousins Orville Cannon and Bob Murray.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel with burial at 2:30 PM at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills, Spearfish, SD.
