Shirley Viergutz, 92 of Belle Fourche, SD died Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 15th 2008 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 16th 2008 at United Church of Christ Congregational in Belle Fourche with Reverend Buck Malone officiating, burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
A memorial has been established to benefit the United Church of Christ Congregational in Belle Fourche.
Shirley was born November 24th 1915 at Ely, Nevada to Charles and Della (Beard) Eitel. She moved with her family to Lamar, Nebraska at ten days old. In April of 1920 the family moved to the Moorcroft, Wyoming area where they obtained the last Homestead available in Crook County. Shirley attended country school until the 8th grade, she then attended high school in Moorcroft, graduating in 1936. After graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah with family and attended West Minister Junior College and Utah University. She then moved to Laramie, Wyoming where she obtained her teaching degree from the University of Wyoming. Shirley returned to Crook County, where she taught country school for two years. She married Willard Viergutz on January 1st 1942. In August of 1942 she moved to Belle Fourche, SD while her husband entered the United States Army and served during WWII. When he returned the couple moved back to their ranch near Aladdin, WY. Shirley moved back to Belle Fourche in 1991, where she was active in the Senior Citizens Center and the United Church of Christ Congregational. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and various arts. She was also a member of the Retired Crook County Teachers Asscociation.
Shirley is survived by one son, Charles Viergets of Goodland, KS, two daughters, Esther Olson and husband LeRoy of Belle Fourche and Gloria Lake of Billings, MT, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984, one grandson, Danny Jacobs and five brothers.
