Shirley Jean Perkovich, 85, of Spearfish and formerly of Lead, passed away on November 18, 2016 at the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center.
Shirley was born on January 5, 1931 in Mitchell, SD to Harold and Madge Brown. The Brown family moved frequently during the Great Depression and World War II. As a result, Shirley was educated numerous places and ultimately graduated from Lead High School in 1948.
After spending time in Pierre, SD and San Diego, CA, Shirley returned to Lead. She married Anton "Babe" Perkovich at St. Patrick Catholic Church on October 22, 1955. Their son, Michael Anthony was born on January 22, 1960.
Prior to Mike's birth, Shirley was employed at Ft. Meade. She later worked for the Rosencranz Insurance Agency and the Homestake Mining Company. At Homestake, she worked in the Personnel, Scheduling, and Environmental Offices.
Shirley is survived by her son, Mike, and special daughter-in-law, Phyllis; step-granddaughter, Jvonne Ellingson and her son, Mason, and step-grandson, Matt (Carly) Herd and their children Eve and Jonas.
Visitation will begin at 6:00PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, with a Vigil services being held at 7:00PM at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Lead. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass of Christian burial being held at 10:00AM, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the church, followed by burial at Black Hills National Cemetery.
