Obituary

Shirley Dora (Dillavou) Nilles
August 12, 1936 – March 26, 2015
Shirley; a private person, living her entire life for and in service for others, caretaker, friend, lover….Sixty-one years of marriage, I knew and loved this women. She was quiet, but of strong will and unshakeable conviction. She believed whole-heartily in God. She chose cremation and Sundance Mountain as her memorial. "Spread my ashes on it's summit, it's a spiritual place to many, I will be there, to provide hope and life to as many living things as I can". So, I as her loving soul mate, we have chose the non-tradional, non big funeral, no big headstone, no fuss of any kind. Shirley said, "Look at the mountain, think kindly, and remember me if you like, I am there".

Shirley was born to Wilbur and Dora Dillavou on August 12, 1936 in Sundance, WY, while the Bearlodge was ablaze northeast of town. She married Raymond H. Nilles in Sundance, June 22, 1955. They started married life living in Moskee, WY, as Raymond worked with the logging crew for Homestake Golden Gate Timber Company, whose sawmill was at Spearfish, SD. They later moved back to Sundance in 1960, and lived there until moving to Spearfish this year. She gave birth to three boys, whom she is very proud of. Shirley served 15 years in the kitchen at Crook County Memorial Hospital, where she made many friends with the residents and fellow workers during this time. Shirley was an avid reader, loved all kinds of music, excellent cook, seamstress, gardener and she loved the outdoors.

While at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish, she passed away after a year battling cancer. She was preceded in passing by her parents and a younger sister, Annabell.
