Obituary

Shirley Douglas, 91, died in Spearfish at Edgewood Vista peacefully in her sleep.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan (Loren) Steenson, Omaha, NE and Mary Lisa Goetschel, Austin, TX; four grandchildren, Sarah Steenson, Kansas City, MO, Rachel Steenson, St. Paul, MN and John and Peter Goetschel, Houston, TX; a sister, Patricia (Wayne) Peters, Sioux Falls; a brother, Bob (JoAnne) Leiferman, Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Agnes Leiferman, Bridgewater; husbands Henry C. Douglas and Bob Peshek, Spearfish; son-in-law Christian Goetschel, Austin, TX; a brother and sister-in-law Bud and Pat Leiferman, Bridgewater; and niece Laurie Leiferman, Sioux Falls.

Shirley was born October 27, 1923 in Bridgewater, SD. She graduated from SDSU with a degree in Home Economics. She taught foods for many years in high schools starting in Mobridge, Spearfish and then 20plus years in Lead. Shirley was an incredible cook, an avid bridge player and frequently played at the Seniors Center; an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and Hand Bell Choir; and past member of Catholic Daughters, she was active in Beta Sigma Phi, Zonta Coronet, as a Matthews Opera House volunteer, and a Hospital Auxiliary member. She also belonged to the Terry Peak Ski Club and the Spearfish Canyon Country Club.

Visitation will start at 6:00PM Sunday, November 9th with Vigil service and Rosary at 7:00 PM at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Spearfish at 11:00 AM Monday, November 10th. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Food Pantry.
