Shirley M. Cummings, 81, passed away October 25, 2016 at her home at Devils Tower, WY.
Shirley M. (Brunson) Cummings was born August 21, 1935 at Sundance Wyoming to Floyd and Florence (Crago) Brunson. Shirley lived her entire life in Crook County, attended rural schools, graduating from Sundance High school in 1953. Then attending Black Hills Teachers College and taught in the rural schools of Crook County.
Charles and Shirley were married on June 12, 1954. They ranched with Charles' father on the Bearlodge Ranch, purchasing the Lebo Ranch at Devils Tower in 1970. The family then moved to the Devils Tower area, where they continued to operate the ranches from that location. Charles and Shirley had two children, a daughter Beverly and a son Robert. Shirley was very proud of her children.
She had worked as an aide at the Sundance Schools, and as a postal clerk, but mostly worked with Charles on the ranch and raising her children. Shirley worked for many years as an election judge, a position she thoroughly enjoyed.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, cake decorating, working in her gardens and yards, and hunting every fall. Her cooking ability was very well known, as well as her ability to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated.
Shirley was admired and looked up to by family and friends, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews as a source of encouragement, hope and love.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Rene) Watts of Sundance, and son, Robert of Devils Tower; grandsons, Justin (Danielle) of Phoenix AZ, Tyler (Ashley) of Gillette WY and Fashion Watts of Chandler AZ; brothers, Don (Dipper) Brunson of Aladdin WY, Lyle (Vivian) Brunson of Sundance; sisters-in-law, Pauline (Darrell) Headley of Whitewood, SD and Darlene (Don) Matthesen of Spearfish, SD; great-granddaughters, Aspen and Aurora Watts of AZ; great-grandsons, Brooks and Parker Watts of Gillette; step great-grandson, Austin of AZ and many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents, Floyd and Florence Brunson; sister, Elta Rogers; brother, Roger Brunson; in-laws, Paul and Gladys Cummings.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2016 at Fidler-Roberts and Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Greater Hulett Community Center in Hulett, WY. Burial will follow at the Cummings Family Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
