Sherman Teigen 80, of Riverside, CA and formerly of Lead, unexpectedly passed away on May 17, 2015 in Riverside, CA.
Husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and a friend to all. A man who was never at a loss for words. Sherman was born in 1934 in Camp Crook, SD to the late Floyd and Julia Teigen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Floyd Allen Teigen, his sister-in-law, Betty Teigen, and nephew Dick Teigen.
After graduating from Lead High School in 1953, Sherm married his high school sweetheart, Margie, in 1957. He then received his BS from Black Hills Teacher College in 1958. Sherm has had lifelong ties to the Lead-Deadwood community, where he started as a junior high school teacher and later a high school teacher. Sherm then built and operated the Alpine Drive Inn with Margie. Deer Mountain Campground and then Deer Mountain Ski Area were their next adventures and finally the Alpine Ski Rental.
Sherm is survived by his wife Margie Teigen; his son and daughter-in-law; Mark Teigen and Valentina Valente, of San Diego, CA; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Mark Medina, of Riverside CA. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Haley and Jada Medina.
A graveside service is planned at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead, Monday, June 8, 2015 at 1pm. A celebration of life to follow at the Homestake Chop House, in Lead, at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Ski for Light, Black Hills Chapter, at sfl.org, which is a non-profit organization that teaches cross country skiing to adults who are blind or mobility impaired. Sherm was one original organizers of the Black Hills chapter, and the members of this organization were often guests at Deer Mountain Ski Area, many becoming lifelong friends.
We will miss his sense of humor and love of life!
