IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Scott Hartley
Montgomery
May 28, 1949 – November 23, 2023
Scott Hartley Montgomery, 74, of Spearfish, SD, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 23.
Scott, son of John "Monty" and Aileen (Haselhuhn) Montgomery, was born May 28, 1949, in Hardin, MT. During his childhood, he spent time in Oklahoma, Rosebud, SD, and Spearfish, SD. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1967. After graduating High School, he went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in 1974.
After graduating from College, Scott married Sue (Nielsen) in 1985 and they welcomed a son, Mason Montgomery, in 1987. With this union, Scott also welcomed two more sons into his life, Dusty and Shane Magelky. Scott loved his kids very much and never missed a chance to tell anyone how proud he was of each one of them. He enjoyed spending time with all his grandkids as well. Scott rarely missed the opportunity to watch his granddaughter play in any of her sports. He loved watching her play. He always joked with Mason, "it's a good thing she takes after her mother."
Scott took pride in his work with numerous jobs throughout his life. He served as a Parole Officer, Probation Officer, and Police Officer. Later in his life, he took on becoming a "Sparky." He loved being an Electrician and watching Mason follow in his footsteps in the electrical field. He loved spending winters on the slopes as Ski Patrol, along with teaching his children how to ski. As Scott got older, he loved "gassing up" with his friends at the truck stop in Belle Fourche. Scott never missed a chance to strike up a conversation with you and he never met a stranger. He had the BIGGEST heart and was willing to lend a helping hand at any time. Scott gave you the sense of always having your back, no matter what, and had a way of making you feel welcome in his presence. He will be greatly missed by so many!
Grateful to have had as a father is son Mason (Chrissy) Montgomery, Brekyn and Camden, Belle Fourche, SD; stepsons Dusty (Kendra) Magelky, Espn, Calder and Stone, Rapid City, SD; and Shane (Lindsay) Magelky, Ayrison, Reegan, Fallon, Theron and Cambrie, New England, ND; and survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends.
Preceded in death by parents Monty and Aileen Montgomery, and brothers Lyn Ross and Kent Montgomery.
