Sarah Eleanor Johnson, 98 of Sturgis, passed away on June 2, 2016 at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Eleanor was born on July 13, 1917 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Roy and Ella (Lyon) Anderson. She attended school and graduated from high school in Mountain Grove. In 1942, she moved to California and worked in shipyards as a toll collector for San Rafael Ferry in Richmond, CA. She married Ellis Roberts and to this union two children were born, Linda and Dennis. She married Ralph Johnson on October 15, 1955 in Reno, Nevada. In 1957, they moved to Blacktail, SD. She spent her time raising her family, enjoying her time with her husband, walking, cooking and enjoying a "good visit" with family and friends. Ralph and Eleanor were very active member of the United Methodist Church in Deadwood for many years, she was also a former member of the Eagles Lodge. Eleanor lived in Blacktail until 2008 before moving to Sturgis where she spent time with her son and his family.
Eleanor is survived by her son, Dennis and his wife, Kim Roberts of Sturgis; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Pierce; grandson, Michael Roberts; one brother and four sisters.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
