Obituary

Ruth Ann Hurley-Miller, 59 of Spearfish, SD passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on March 16, 2010.
Ruth was born August, 24, 1950 to Cecil and Martha (Loftesness) Hurley and was raised on the family farm in Canton, SD. She moved to Spearfish with her family in 1959 where she attended 4th grade through High School graduating in 1968. She attended Mt. Marty College and graduated from Colorado State University in foreign language as a translator. Ruth lived in France, where she taught English at the University of Leone' France. In the US she lived and worked in various cities. She came back to Spearfish and worked in the family business where she met her future husband, Paul on St. Patrick's Day 1982. Ruth and her husband did extensive traveling for the first ten years after his retirement in 1990. In 1999 they moved onto their ranch west of Spearfish. Ruth enjoyed her ranch living, gardening, her "Book Club", being involved with the Adams House in Deadwood, and was a loyal student of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Ruth was a highly educated, cultured, "common sense "person. She always maintained an extremely high level of care for her family, nieces and nephews. Anyone that knew her found her to be extremely friendly and outgoing.
Ruth is survived by her husband Paul, of Spearfish, step-son Paul Michael, of Tucson, AZ; sister Carol (Chuck) Whitlock, of Spearfish; brother Joe (Kathy) Hurley, of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews Cherise (Donovan) Lerew, Craig (Toni) Whitlock, Cory (Carrie) Whitlock, Callie (Tom) Schoenherr, Cami Whitlock, Pat Hurley, Mike Hurley and Maureen Hurley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Martha Hurley and younger brother Bobby Hurley.
A very special thanks to Nicole Nelson who helped Paul through the final days with Ruth Ann. Also a special thank you to the Hospice of the Northern Hills, without them it would have been impossible to give her the care needed.
Family inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
A lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Artemis House, and condolences may sent to 19727 Red Hill Road Spearfish, SD 57783.
