Rudolf "Rudy" Herbert Fuerst, 91, Spearfish, died on August 7, 2016.

Rudy was born on January 5, 1925 to Otto and Hilda Fuerst in Highmore, SD. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Kaylor, SD. Rudy served in the US Navy during World War II as a Signalman Third Class on the USS Argonne.

Rudy married Deloris Marie Fuerst on October 27, 1946 and were married nearly 70 years before his passing. They farmed near Wessington Springs, SD until 1953, and then moved to Huron, SD. He worked a series of construction jobs, until finding employment as a salesman with Western States Wholesale. Rudy later worked as a salesman for IKO, a fabric company out of Denver, CO. In his later years he worked as a general maintenance man for the City of Spearfish before retiring.

Rudy's favorite hobby was gardening, and he studied to be a Master Gardener. Rudy became a South Dakota Master Gardener in 1993 by the SDSU Extension Service.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Deloris Fuerst; children, Diana (Roland) Hinkle, Eileen (Mike) Weddel, Shirley (Larry) Deibert and Alan Fuerst; grandchildren, Johanna Sower, Stacy Lujan, Shelly Wong, Kerry Fuerst, Anna Fuerst, Rachel Allison, Paul Deibert; great-grandchildren, Julie Sower, Aidan Lujan, Lexis Lujan, Samantha Wong, Shay Piesik, Tana Michels, Bailey Deibert, Jeremy Deibert and Abigail Deibert; siblings, Ruben Fuerst, Robert Fuerst, Reinhold Fuerst, Helen Kihara, Louis Gascoicne, Bernice Cory and Marie Kirton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Hilda Fuerst; six brothers and five sisters and great-grandson, Owen Allison.

Visitation will be from 4-6 on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral services will be at 9:00AM on Friday, August 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
