Rose A. Nuzum, 82 of Spearfish died Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Crook County Memorial Nursing Home.
Rose was born December 9, 1933 to George and Leta (Burditt) Schmieg at the Anderson House in Sturgis, South Dakota. She was raised on her family's ranch near Plainview, SD. She married Richard "Dick" Nuzum. The couple ranched near Plainview for many years. In 1973 they moved to Spearfish and purchased Shady Pines Cabins. They later sold the cabins and purchased land west of Spearfish, which became Deer Meadows, which later became developed into housing. Rose enjoyed raising chickens and tending to her large garden.
She is survived by her sons; Jay, John, Justin and Elliot Nuzum, one brother, Don, two sisters, Gladys and Betty and numerous grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, T.W., husband, Dick and one sister, Mary and one grandson, Casey.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM on February 23, 2016 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. in Sturgis.
